Description

Obarval produces mental relaxation and autonomic stabilization, a sedative-hypnotic effect and muscle relaxation.

Composition

Each 2 mL Obarval Ampoule contains :

  • Diazepam: 10 mg.
  • Excipient: S.Q. for ampoule of 2 mL.

Indications

Obarval ( Diazepam ) is a Benzodiazepine derivative, it has been used to relief the emotional and psychic disorders, fear and anxiety and it has been used as hypnotic, muscle relaxant, and as anti-convulsion.

Also Obarval is indicated in the pathological conditions which associated by the symptoms of phsychogenic tension, anxiety, phobia, obsessive-neurosis, psychosomatic disorders (cardiovascular, duodenal ulcer, intestinal spasm, migraine, tension headache ), alcohol withdrawal syndrome, menopausal syndrome in women, sleep disturbances, muscle spasm of central and peripheral origin. Also the ampoules are used in the preparation of patients for anesthetic and endoscopic procedures and in the management of cerebral seizure.

Dosage & Administration

The dosage of ampoules are according to the age of the patients and the severity of the case. The injection should be done very slowly and for a period not less than 2 minutes for each ampoule and the injection in the small veins like the veins of the wrist should be avoided, Obarval “diazepam” should not be mixed or diluted with other product in the same syringe.

Moderate cases of anxiety: (2-5) mg I.M or I.V and may be repeated every (3-4) hours.

In the case of severe anxiety: (5-10) mg I.M or I.V and may be repeated every (3-4) hours when needed.

For symptomatic relief of alcohol withdrawal syndrome: 10 mg I.M or (5-10) mg I.V every (3-4) hours when needed.

For the preparation before starting endoscopic procedures: 10 mg or less I.V is sufficient, but a 20 mg I.V dose could be reached. In the case where I.V route can’t be administered it is recommended to give (5-10) mg I.M before 30 minutes of starting the endoscopic procedures.

Relief of skeletal muscle spasm: (5-10) mg I.M or I.V; then (5-10) mg every (3-4) hours; if the case needs higher dosage, then it should be used.

For the management of tetanus (Pediatric tetanus)

  • For babies between 1 month and 5 years, the recommended dose is (1-2) mg I.M or very slowly I.V injection and may be repeated every (3-4) hours.
  • For children over 5 years of age the recommended dose is (5-10) mg and could be repeated every (3-4) hours.
  • An auxiliary respiratory apparatus should be available.

For the management of Status Epilepticus:

  • The recommended dose is (5-10) mg I.V and may be repeated during 15 minutes up to reach (30) mg. The dosage may be repeated every (2-4) hours.
  • For pediatric patients between 1 month and 5 years the recommended dosage is (0.2-0.5) mg very slowly every (2-5) minutes until reaching to a maximal dose about 5 mg I.V.
  • For children above 5 years of age the recommended dose is 1 mg every (2-5) minutes until reaching a (10) mg dose by slow intravenous injection.
  • And may be repeated every (2-4) hours according to the necessity of the case.
  • It is advisable to make an accompaniment EEG.

For preoperative surgical cases: (10) mg I.M before starting the surgical operation.

Electric Cardiac-Shock (Cardioversion): (5-15) mg I.V during 5 to 10 minutes before proceeding the (Cardioversion).
